Ryan Moore, Builders International Director

"We are launching a new project and I am very excited about this work! All the ingredients are here to make a huge impact, as we come alongside our missionary partners, Tim and Debbie Anderson, working deep in the jungles of southern Ecuador. The only thing missing in this fantastic ministry is A PLACE to train the indigenous Shuar people who have accepted Jesus, and are now called by God to take the gospel to their tribe, and Unreached People Group, scattered throughout 600 villages of the Amazon Rainforest."

The Jungle Bible School will train indigenous church planters to reach 600 unreached villages of the
head-shrinking Shuar tribe.

the DESCRIPTION
Situated among these tribal villages, deep within the jungles of southern Ecuador, sits a ten-acre Bible School campus. This will become a training ground for church planters who will evangelize the Shuar people, living in the Amazon region of Ecuador. This five-phase project will include the main seminary building, chapel, separate dorms for men, women, and families, as well as four apartments for professors. Forty students are currently attending this semester. The ministry is growing, and that is where you come in!
the BENEFITS
Enrollment at Jungle Bible School continues to grow each semester! Upon graduation, students will become trained church planters, pastors, leaders, and laborers throughout the Shuar villages, and will take the gospel to this unreached people group.

There are 600 unreached Shuar villages scattered throughout the Amazon rainforest of Ecuador.

Meet The Missionaries

Tim and Debbie Anderson are Assemblies of God missionaries, serving in Ecuador since 1988. The Jungle Bible School was a dream God put in their heart when they landed in Ecuador 33 years ago.
The Andersons main focus over the years has been church planting. In 1989, they began a church in the capital city of Quito. Once that church was established, they made their first airplane visit to the Amazon jungle region of Ecuador in 1990. Since then, Tim has made monthly trips into the jungle from Quito.Their work among the Shuar Indians in the jungle has grown tremendously over the years. God has also helped them with many other successes, as well!

They oversee 10 Child Hope Schools with approximately 1000 grade 1-12 students, as well as 40 churches and many outstations spanning two large provinces.

Tim started a Teen Challenge program within the prisons in Quito. Later, along with MAPS construction teams, they built the Ecuador Men’s Teen Challenge Center, which just celebrated its 25th year of operation!

Debbie has assisted in church planting efforts, which include worship, teacher training, and women’s ministry. All this while homeschooling their children over the years!

Tim and Debbie have five grown children and six grandchildren living all over the world!
The Shuar people are most widely known over the years for their head-shrinking practices. Many tribes would shrink the heads of their enemies, then tribe leaders would show off their collection of heads to scare enemies. Head shrinking has only been documented in the northwestern region of the Amazon rainforest.
  • 600 unreached Shuar villages scattered throughout the Amazon rainforest of Ecuador.
  • Current estimate of the Shuar population is approximately 140,000.
  • Many of these villages are in extremely difficult areas to reach, only accessible by canoe or hiking.

The Jungle Bible School will provide:

  • a place for indigenous students to be trained in the Word of God.
  • a training center for the preparation of church planters, pastors, leaders, and laborers throughout the Shuar villages.
  • trained graduates who will take the gospel to this Unreached People Group.
HOPE for the Shuar tribal people of Ecuador!

Jungle Pastor Daniel Mashu

The gospel was brought to the village of Karink in the Ecuadorian jungle six years ago. Pastor Daniel Mashu, a native Shuar, accepted Jesus and is now evangelizing in the jungle. His brother Miguel is the associate pastor of the church, he has known the Lord for 20 years. There are still 600 villages who have still not heard the gospel.

For years, Missionary Tim has had to hike a treacherous 12 miles to get into the village. There is now a road with access to the village and other areas, which means now is the time to get the gospel to these villages! Trained workers are needed now.

That’s where Jungle Bible School comes in! Currently, the closest Bible school is much too far for the Shuar people to trek for Bible training. This school provides quality training for those living in the Amazon region of Ecuador. Upon graduation, students will become trained church planters, pastors, leaders, and laborers throughout the Shuar villages, and will take the gospel to this unreached people group.

I understand that my action will make a difference in Ecuador!

Yes, I want to join the journey into the jungle by following this project!

Meet Teresa and Hear Her Powerful Testimony!

Teresa Dies…
Teresa lives in a village near the school with her common-law husband, Ernan. She suffered from diabetes and had major complications that forced her to go to the hospital at the end of 2019. Teresa’s daughter, Salome, sat by her side as the doctors didn’t give her any hope. They pronounced her dead at 5:00 AM on a Wednesday. Her daughter called her father to give him the news.

Ernan frantically made his way to the hospital. Sorrowfully, the family said their final goodbyes as the hospital staff took Teresa’s body to the morgue.

Over the next few hours, a miraculous story took place…
Salome’s Dream…
In mourning, Salome went to her aunt’s house to rest. As she drifted off to sleep, her mother appeared to her in a dream. Teresa was wearing a long white gown in the dream, as she called to Salome, saying “I am here.” Salome suddenly woke up, looking for her mother. She screamed for her aunt and told her that her mother was there. She soon realized it must have been a dream.

The next morning Salome went to breakfast with her father before they were to pick up her mother’s body at the morgue. Salome explained the dream she had about her mother in the white dress.

The Dress…
Ernan began to recount his experience the first night without his wife. He was staying in a motel by the hospital. When he arrived in his room after leaving the hospital, he collapsed to his knees, weeping that he would never again see his wife. He laid across the bed, sobbing, and covered up with the white dress he brought for his wife to wear for her funeral. As morning drew near, he awoke shivering because he was so cold. The dress he had covered up with was gone. He looked around the room to see if it had fallen on the floor, but it was not there. When he turned around, he found the dress...mysteriously, it had been neatly folded and placed on top of the pillow next to where he slept. He was puzzled by this, but had to leave to meet his daughter for breakfast.

Back to the Hospital…
After their conversation, they went back to the hospital for Teresa’s body at noon on Friday. When they arrived, the doctor reported some shocking news!

Standing around her seemingly lifeless body, the doctor called her by name, “Mrs. Teresa.” To her family’s amazement, she opened her eyes! She moved her head, but could not speak.

In that joy-filled moment, Ernan proclaimed to his children, “Your mom has come back to us!”

They got her back home and she finally had enough strength to tell them what happened during the 2 ½ days that she was dead.

Like a Bird…
She remembers traveling to heaven, almost like a bird, she recalled. When she arrived, she was greeted by her sister-in-law in a beautiful pink floral dress.

The Bearded Man…
She saw a bright window, and a bearded man asked her where she was going. When she told him she was going with her sister-in-law, he told her she needed to come with him, then she could leave. The bearded man took her by the hand and asked her name. She answered, “My name is Theresa.” She quickly realized this bearded man was the Lord. The subject of her “husband” came up in conversation and the Lord reminded her that Ernan was not her husband...she had not yet married him. He told Theresa she needed to marry Ernan, since they lived together and had children.

The Rooms…
He then led her to different rooms. The first room was full of flames and fire and she was afraid and hid behind the Lord. Before they arrived in the next room, she could hear people screaming, “Lord, forgive me!” She saw alcoholics who couldn’t get the bottle to their mouths, no satisfaction, just wailing. They moved on to the third room and she saw people jumping into fire. The fourth room, they saw adulterers and thieves.

The White Dress…
From there, they went down a road. He told Teresa she must choose a road, but she could not stay for now. He took her to one more room and gave her a white dress. He told her those were the clothes she would wear when she returns.

The Black Cat…
Then, the devil appeared in the form of a black cat with horns. He shouted at the Lord, insisting that Teresa must come with him! The Lord told him, “Go away! She is mine. That is why she is with me.” The devil turned around and left.

Teresa’s Return…
Teresa told the Lord she was scared. He assured her not to be scared, and that she was going back home. As the Lord told her that, she woke up to the doctor telling her she had been dead for two and a half days. The nurse asked her what she dreamed and Teresa told her everything!

Teresa’s Testimony…
Many Shuar people came to her in the hospital, inquiring about what the Lord told her regarding “common-law” living and not marrying their spouse. It’s also customary among the Shuar people for two women to be married to one man. They felt conviction after hearing what the Lord spoke to Teresa. She has already been a witness to the Shuar people.

Ernan and Teresa get Married…
Ernan felt convicted too, and asked the pastor to marry them after Teresa got home from the hospital. Teresa also urged her children to stop living in sin and get right with the Lord.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.” John 11:25
